In the dark

You know what doesn’t exist in the dark…

Optimism

Joy

Motivation

A sense of belonging

Ask someone who is in the deep dark hole to just tough it out or put a smile on and they literally can’t.  Those emotions don’t exist down there.

Despair

Doubt

Fear

Loneliness

Worthlessness

Those are the demons (emotions) that live in the darkness.  And demons they truly are.  Tormentors even.  They control the whole body and mind.  It’s crippling.  Debilitating.

And then when you try to pick your head up out of the hole and you see the wake of devastation that you’ve left behind it’s just right back in the hole but this time with a large dose of SHAME to go with it.

It’s seems never ending. It feels hopeless.

But…

There is hope.

Because inside that deep dark hole sits The Human One.  He doesn’t avoid the hole. He understands it. He’s been in it before. He’s done the “walked a mile in your shoes” bit. He came and lived a Human life so there isn’t anything that he doesn’t understand. Not a single second in that hole that he is not fully aware of that pain. That emotion. That despair.

He has a way out for you.  “Follow me” he says. It’s a different kind of life. But you’re going to have to let go.  Let go of who you think you are. Who you’ve built and created. The false you.  The false identity.

So, if this is where you’re at right now… I’m sorry.  I understand your pain. I am in that with you. But more than words and pity I invite you to open your eyes to The Human One. To Jesus.

What else do you have to lose.

Your story is powerful. But you can’t tell it from the dark. Fight for a better way of living.
